Join Our Parent Steering Group – Help Shape SEND Sport & Physical Activity!
We are looking for parents and carers to join our Parent Steering Group, a key initiative to improve sport and physical activity opportunities for children with SEND.
Who Can Join?
We welcome parents and carers of children with SEND who are passionate about improving opportunities for their children. No formal experience is needed – your lived experience is what matters most!
Role Overview
As a member of the Parent Steering Group, you will provide valuable input into the development and improvement of sport and physical activity opportunities for children with SEND. The group will act as a collaborative forum where parents and carers can share their perspectives, highlight challenges, and help shape future initiatives.
Your involvement will help to ensure that programmes are designed to be as accessible, inclusive, and beneficial as possible. Whether it’s feeding back on current provision, suggesting new approaches, or supporting the development of resources, your contributions will make a real difference.
Key Responsibilities
As a Parent Steering Group member, you will:
- Provide feedback on existing SEND sport and physical activity opportunities, identifying areas for improvement.
- Share personal experiences to help shape more inclusive programmes and initiatives.
- Contribute ideas for new activities, events, and training that will support children with SEND.
- Help identify barriers to participation and suggest potential solutions.
- Advocate for the needs of children and families by ensuring their voices are central to decision-making.
- Engage with discussions and projects, offering insight into what works well and what could be developed further.
- Attend quarterly meetings (held in person or virtually) to discuss key topics, share ideas, and review progress.
Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for parents and carers who:
- Have a child or young person with SEND and want to see improvements in sport and physical activity provision.
- Are passionate about inclusion and want to ensure every child has the opportunity to participate in physical activity in a meaningful way.
- Are willing to share their experiences and perspectives to help shape better services.
- Enjoy working collaboratively with other parents, professionals, and organisations.
- No formal experience is required – your lived experience and insight as a parent/carer are what matter most!
Time Commitment
- Quarterly meetings (approx. 1–2 hours per meeting, with a mix of in-person and virtual options).
- Optional involvement in specific projects or focus groups outside of meetings.
- Opportunities to provide feedback via email or surveys between meetings.
Your contributions will play a vital role in shaping a more inclusive and accessible future for SEND sport and physical activity. By sharing your experiences and ideas, you can help create positive change for children and families across the county.
