What We Do
It’s our charities vision for every child to thrive in order to lead happy, healthy lives.
WHAT WE DO
It’s our mission to empower children within Gloucestershire and the surrounding area, irrespective of their circumstances, to reap the many benefits of an active, healthy lifestyle, fostering lifelong behaviours for their overall well-being.
As a charity we work with schools, communities and families to deliver physical activity and health interventions that develop positive behaviours with sustainable, lifelong benefits.
OUR WORK WITH SCHOOLS
Through our membership packages, we offer primary schools a variety of services to complement their existing delivery of PE and School Sport, family engagement and teacher CPD. In addition to this, each academic year we organise and deliver over 100 events and competitions for Cheltenham and Tewkesbury primary, secondary and special schools. Our work with schools is split into three areas – Education & Support; Health & Families and Participation.
OUR WORK WITH COMMUNITIES
Through securing funding from various sources, including Gloucestershire County Council, Active Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire Community Foundation, Cheltenham Borough Council, Bromford Housing and the National Lottery we deliver free physical activity and health interventions for vulnerable children (aged 2 – 17 years) and families during term time and the school holidays. To successfully deliver this provision we partner with local community organisations and the private sector to ensure opportunities are delivered in the right place, at the right time and for the right people.
OUR WORK WITH FAMILIES
Move More’s work with families aims to improve children’s overall well-being by developing self-confidence and self-esteem as well as social, emotional and relationship skills. This is achieved through providing a variety of support services to parents/carers, including 1-2-1 sessions, group discussions and webinars. Our work is early support and prevention and benefits the wider family unit through long-term behaviour change. This area of work also benefits schools through increased attendance, reduced antisocial behaviour and overstretching of staff and resources.
PARENT PAID PROVISION
Throughout the school holidays, we deliver parent paid holiday camps for 4 – 11 year olds across Cheltenham and Tewkesbury. During term time we also deliver Balanceability classes for children aged 3 and upwards to learn to cycle as well as our popular Mighty Movers programme for 2 – 4 year olds and Move More Clubs for 7 – 13 year olds. The income generated from this provision is reinvested into our charity to subsidise school and community based delivery and ensure we have enough staff as we strive towards our vision of EVERY CHILD THRIVES.
SCHOOLS, FAMILIES, COMMUNITIES
In striving towards our vision of ‘Every Child Thrives’ our work is diverse in its approach and involves engaging with multiple stakeholders. Subsequently, we work with a wide range of children and therefore have a variety of programmes and approaches to suit their needs. We also recognise that a greater focus on children experiencing inequalities is required to ensure that all children can be physically active within supportive environments and experience the physical, social and mental wellbeing benefits to thrive.
